Planterra’s events are run by our team of planners, coordinators and designers. Event planning and design services are included with the rental of the Conservatory. Our event planning process is customized for each of our clients and our team is here to make it your planning and hosting experience an exceptional one.
David has been directing events for Planterra clients since 2010. He designs each event – from menu, décor, floral and every detail in between - to make our clients’ visions come to life. He has 10 years of professional experience in arts fundraising, programming and event planning and worked at Pace MacGill Gallery, The Noguchi Museum and one of Estee Lauder’s family foundations in New York. David is a graduate of both Albion College and Brooklyn College and attended the Atelier Léo Marchutz in Aix-en-Provence, France. David’s interests include wine, art and useless pop culture knowledge.
Event Contract Manager & Events Blog Editor
Anne focuses on the planning details and budgets to make our clients’ visions a reality. She has a background in marketing and administration and uses her experience to make your planning process organized and efficient. She also manages our blog, keeping tabs on current trends in the event design industry. Anne is a graduate of the University of Michigan and enjoys tennis, cooking and creating unique pieces for her line of boutique pottery housewares.
Event Operations Manager
Megan focuses on the coordination and flawless execution of the event day, working closely with catering and our clients’ vendors. Megan and her staff are on-site during each rehearsal and event. She oversees every detail, beginning with the set-up the day of the event until the last guest leaves at the end of the evening. She has been with Planterra since early 2014 and brings more than five years of event experience working at Palace Sports and Entertainment, the DeVos Place in Grand Rapids and Chartwells Higher Education at Oakland University. Megan is a graduate of Oakland University and loves to spend her time with her family including her baby son, Dominic.
Floral and Display Director
Bill has been the Floral and Display Director at Planterra since 2005. He and his team are responsible for designing and creating the floral and décor for all of our events. This includes stunning bouquets, boutonnieres, centerpieces, garlands and entry displays. Anything a bride can imagine, Bill can bring to life in flowers. Bill is a native of Rochester Hills and a graduate of Michigan State University. Previously Bill worked for 20 years in Boston for the Baugh Haus Collaborative and Harding Botanicals. He enjoys gardening, home renovations, cooking and spoiling his nieces and nephews.
Faith started her career here at Planterra fourteen years ago in our Planterra’s Interiorscape Division and still manages Planterra’s Corporate Christmas Design accounts. For our Floral and Display Team, Faith works closely with our flower growers and floral wholesalers to bring the freshest and most beautiful floral and greens to our clients. Her knowledge of flowers is immense and the arrangements she creates are beautiful. Faith enjoys crafting and baking.
Shane oversees the company’s three divisions of corporate plantscaping, floral and display production and events services. Shane is active with community non-profits and serves on the board of the West Bloomfield Chamber of Commerce. Shane has an educational background in film production and design and is a graduate of Emerson College in Boston. Shane enjoys cooking and is passionate about sustainable food systems, authentic world cuisines and wine; he also is an enthusiast of modernism, adventure travel and fishing.
Zach is responsible for the botanicals inside the Conservatory, purchasing plants and setting proprietary quality standards on plant health and aesthetics. Having grown-up in Planterra’s greenhouses, chlorophyll runs through his veins. Zach is a graduate of the University of Michigan and is also a professional musician. He regularly performs at Detroit venues and his music is also licensed for TV and films, such as Showtime’s original series Homeland.
Larry M. Pliska
Founder & Owner
Larry founded Planterra in 1973 as an exotic plant distribution and interior landscape company. Born and raised in the city of Detroit, Larry has devoted his life to growing a nature-centric organization catering to the metropolitan Detroit region. Considered an industry pioneer, he has led some of the largest interior landscapes installations in the region, such as Detroit’s Renaissance Center and Somerset Collection in Troy. Larry is a world traveler, percussionist, wine enthusiast and environmentalist. He is also an avid outdoorsman spending his summers sailing on Lake Michigan and winters scuba diving and horseback riding in exotic locales.
Carol sets the standards for the company’s styles and designs each season. Carol travels and attends horticulture, interior design and hospitality trending events throughout the year. She has served on numerous committees for non-profit and community organizations. She performed with the Detroit Ballet Society from when she was a child until she was 33 years old. Carol enjoys gardening, international travel, antiquing and is a collector of Art Nouveau decorative arts.
